Feedback! Feedback!

So, I’ve been toying with the idea of allowing visitors to leave comments about a takeaway, and have decided on my own little twist on things.

Feedback – not reviews – feedback.

When you log into The Menu Pile website, you can now leave feedback for a restaurant using the ‘Give Feedback’ link, under the ‘Options’ dropdown.

This will take you to a page where you can leave feedback *for the restaurant*, along with a rating of 1 to 5 stars.

This is saved on our database and the restaurant will be able to log into their account and see the feedback (good or bad!) that you’ve left for them.

In addition, you can always access the ‘My Feedback’ page and see all of the feedback comments that you have left for all of the restaurants.

Don’t worry – the restaurant won’t be able to see your personal details – but the aim is to provide constructive feedback for the restaurant owners.

Needless to say rude/offensive/etc comments will be deleted, as all feedback is reviewed before the restaurants see them.

Wrong Menu Woes

It was always going to happen.  At some point, the restaurant owners have re-vamped their menus and then The Menu Pile website is out of date, as it’s still showing the older one.

I’ve been getting emails and Facebook direct-messages from you guys, saying that one restaurant or another had a new menu, but I wanted to make it easier for you to suggest that there was a problem.

Introducing… Report a Menu!

Providing that you’re logged into your account on The Menu Pile’s website, when you search for restaurants, you’ll now find that there’s a new drop-down menu called ‘Member Options’.

Inside there, you’ll currently see just one item, that says ‘REPORT: This menu is out of date’.  (More to add to this drop-down menu item soon!)

Clicking this link will take you to a confirmation screen, allowing you to double-check that you’re meaning business. From there, a notification is raised (so far only for my eyes) that there’s a problem with the menu.

I’ll get it (soon) such that these reports are (somehow) displayed on the screen for others to see, but I’m still working on the background functionality to check it all works first.

Lots of little changes

So, I’ve been adding minor improvements to The Menu Pile website here and there, and it’s starting to look a lot better than I had initially imagined it could have.

There’s been a fair bit of work done to the site that you can’t see, partly to make things work better or for future developments (watch this space!) but in terms of the things that you can see, here’s a short list of improvements to…

The listings page:

  • Made the type of food tag stand out a little more, based on feedback from users. The blue makes this quite important element jump out of the black text.
  • Added the ‘Collections’ tag – this means that you’re able to turn up and collect the food from them – some places do not offer collections, so this makes it more apparent.
  • Added the ‘Home Deliveries’ tag, that shows whether a given restaurant is able to deliver food.  As yet, we’re not showing where or how far they deliver, but this is it for the time-being.
  • Add favourite/Remove favourite button has been fixed – this is available to logged-in users that allow a restaurant to appear on the Home screen, making it faster to get to regularly used menus.

The Home page:

  • The Favourites section has been re-built, allowing for more, but concise, information about regularly used restaurants.
  • Remove favourite button works properly now! There was a minor bug that prevented the removal of the Favourite from the list, but it’s been fixed now.

In all the changes seem quite natural and look as though they’re as they should be. I’m constantly looking-over the website but sometimes it’s easy to over-look something when you’re on the website a lot!  But if you notice anything that’s not right, or could be improved, please let me know and I’ll look into it.

3,500 Menus Downloaded!

You may have already seen a Facebook post (or two!) of mine, saying that we’ve had over 3,500 menus downloaded from the website already.  Or not.

Well, it’s true – The Menu Pile website is already starting to be used by hundreds of people for their reference when needing to place a telephone order for a takeaway!

Out-dated menus are being replaced all the time, so if you happen to know that a restaurant that we list has changed their menu, just dropping us a line is most appreciated.  (Sending the menu over is even better!)

Already, we’re on our way to the 4,000 mark, which would be a great milestone to hit, and I’m sure that there will be some comment from us about it, no doubt!

Some people have asked, so I thought I might try to clear-up any confusion: I’m a bit of a stickler for stats and the menu download numbers that we publish are 100% genuine, and in the timeframes that we say, too.
